An exhibition of the select works of students of different disciplines of Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) done during the three-day workshop on famous painter, sculptor, architect and expert in several other disciplines Leonardo da Vinci will be held from Friday, 20th Sep onwards at the Italian Cultural Centre, New Delhi. More than 350 students from 22 departments participated in the interdisciplinary international workshop on Leonardo da Vinci, organised by the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, JMI, in collaboration with Istituto Italiano di Cultura, New Delhi from 16th-18th September. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Chiara Rostagno, Director, Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano, Milan, Italy. During the workshop works of Leonardo da Vinci in the fields of art, architecture, planning, sculpture, philosophy as well as science were discussed as a commemoration of his 500th death anniversary this year. The objective was also to infuse creativity and foresight amongst students in the field of science, engineering, and arts. Students from departments such as mathematics, architecture, mass communication, engineering, english, and physics of the university participated in the workshop. The inaugural session was attended among others by Prof. Hina Zia, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, JMI, Prof. SM Akhtar, Head, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Mr. Andrea Baldi, Director, Italian Cultural Center, New Delhi, Mr. Pietro Sferra Carini, the Deputy Ambassador of Italy. JMI Registrar Mr. AP Siddiqui was the chief of the function. In his keynote address he appreciated the works of Leonardo da Vinci and said that the society can learn a lot from his works in different fields. He mentioned about the blooming ties between Jamia Millia Islamia and Italian Cultural Centre and wished grand success for the international workshop. "I appreciate the strong bond of cooperation between our embassy and the university and hope it will strengthen in the future", said Mr. Andrea Baldi, Director, Italian Cultural Center, New Delhi. Mr. Pietro Sferra Carini, the Deputy Ambassador of Italy said, "The influence of Leonardo Da Vinci on the Italian culture is immense and contribution so great that the fine art expression of Italy would be incomplete without the mention of Da Vinci." Dr. Chiara Rostagno expressed her excitement on conducting the workshop in Jamia Millia Islamia and also mentioned that Leonardo Da Vinci had made a diary in which he had written accounts of his travel to India. Prof. SM Akhtar, Head, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia emphasized on learning with a free mind where observation is a primary aspect. At the valedictory session, Dr. Rostagno and Mr Baldi expressed their joy at the overwhelming response of the students. The workshop was organised under the guidance of Ar. Iqtedar Alam and Ar. Arshiya Ahmed.
